I was thinking 3 x C24 150x47 bolted together would make me feel more comfortable, or am I being over cautious?Ĭan someone please put me out of my misery and guide me to a solution. I have read that the ridge beam should be the same as the rafter plus and extra 2" on the height making it a C24 150x47 but that seems too small to me. I've calculated the synthetic slate and rafter weight to be around 500kg which includes a 10% allowance for SWL. I've set the pitch at 23 degress and chosen C24 100x47 rafters set at 600mm gaps (found tables for guidance). Here's what I have so far: the buildings open span length is 6.2 metres from gable wall to gable wall which the ridge beam will sit on and overhang either side by 200mm, and 3.3 metres along the building width which the rafters will span across and overhang either side by 200mm. I'm currently designing a new garage roof for an existing building and having difficulty finding info on what size ridge beam to choose.
